It's truly a shame that you would retire when you were so good! I really liked seeing you play: I really like your style and technique. It's really extraordinary that someone who is a naturally left-handed can develop such a style a skill. I have always been hoping to tape one of your matches in a video, but unfortunately, it will happen no more. Good luck in your life for the champion you are!

The contributors to this web site have done a masterful
job-- I only hope that Kimiko has been able to appreciate it
as much as the rest of us. I had the privilege of speaking
with Kimiko at a practice session of the WTA Championships
and would just like to share that I found her to be truly
beautiful, gracious, and charming woman. I hope this site
will stick around to commemorate her tennis career.

I am disappointed to hear of your impending retirement. Your grace, sportsmanship and determination on the court will be missed. Enjoy your future and broaden your scope of life to make your sacrifice of the years spent playing professional tennis worthwhile. Although I am disappointed that I will not see you play again, I know you will go on to a better life.

Hi Date-san
When I heard your retairment from my frined, I couldn't belive it. However, you decided. I want to tell that you encourage me many many times. Now, I live in california; I go to U.C.L.A. Even though I don't have to work here because my parents support me, living in a foreigh country is not so easy. I know some people from other countries, came to the U.S. with many hopes, and lost their hopes becuase they couldn't adjust new county and cluture. I do not want write detail about these people. Myself, I neary dropped out from the life in several times; however, I didn't becuase I hve some very nice freind, my supported family, and you. I have been touched by your play so much. Thank you Date- san. Don't forget I am not the only one who feels that way because you gave other people dreams.

Hi Kimiko !!
I was very much saddened to hear of your retirement. Your elegant style of play and gritty determination on the court are a true inspiration to us all. I began to follow your career early this year and was immediately impressed. You are a wonderful fresh face on the tour. It is very sad to see you retire at a high point in your career ... and I think you have not even reached your peak yet !!
Your shoes will indeed be very hard to fill ... but hopefully others like Ai and Naoko can strive to succeed carry on the tradition of honor and determination and grace that you have exemplified.
I wanted to see you play live at the Olympics in Atlanta but unfortunately things didn't work out. Then I hoped I could see you play live at another US tournament. I may now never get the chance.
Like many of your other fans around the world, I hope you will reconsider your decision to retire from professional tennis.
I wish you the best of luck in whatever you decide to pursue in the future and know that you will succeed and do well. Best Wishes for happiness and a fulfilling future .... and never lose that
infectious smile.

I just would like to say it's too bad you have
chosen to retire. While I understand your reasons
I still will miss you competative spirit and wonderful
attitude on the court. I wish some of the male players
could take something from how you played the sport.
Good luck in your future endevours and if you ever do see
this give Clas a big thanks for putting up a fantastic web
page. The best web page for the best player. I too am
interested in hearing from tennis players from around the

hello kimiko, I am sidney from, lafayette, Louisiana. Well i am a black 18 year old boy who is a freshman in college at the university of southwestern louisiana. I just started playing tennis this year, for the first time, but iI have been watching tennis forever on T.V. I just want to tell you that you are a very talented young lady. I always enjoyed how you always tried and never gave up in your matches, you are one of my favorite tennis players in the world. You are a great role model forpeople especially the japanese. I really am going to miss watching how you serve the ball and how you look so elegant while playing, almost like a robot arm when you would hit the ball. I think you are so cool kimiko, you are one of my role models in the game of tennis. I am real sad that you are leaving tennis, I have a tear in my eye while I write this. Well good luck in life and have fun and be happy. Always remember you were the best. I hope you change your mine about retiring, I am going to miss you so much on the tennis court and watching your matches. You have a very nice and beautifel style of tennis. Good luck Kimiko, I love you :) :) :) :) :) p.s. I am also going to miss your serious look on your face. :) love sidney

Kimiko-san, I am a tennis "hacker" from Washington, D.C. Although I am not Japanese, I play regularly with a wonderful group of Japanese men and women. You seem to be the Japanese equivalent of Chris Evert -- with you grace, charm, and infinite dignity. I, too, am sorry that you are leaving the tennis world so prematurely! Could you do us a favor? Can you let us know how you think we can improve our own tennis games based on your inner, psychological strengths? I saw your match with Ms. Graf, which you won, and it went beyond sheer physical strength and stamina. You drew from something else, I think. Best of everything to you in the future! Impressive! Inspirational! I have only seen Kimiko in two matches and she brings something special to the sport of tennis. I too, believe she has not reached her peak, and could contribute a great deal more to the sport. It is truly sad to hear that your plans are to depart from WTA play. You will sincerely be missed, and it is a loss for all tennis fans. Thanks for the memories of the charm, determination, and superior skills you have given us as we watched you on the court. Best wishes in whatever you do next, I am sure you'll succeed.
List me as an instant fan!!!
