ABOUT CORONA VIRUS IN JAPAN

Key points worth noting (January 15):

 

    • After 1337 new coronavirus infections on the New Year’s Eve (December 31) and rising numbers during the first week of 2021, Japanese Government issued a state of emercency starting from January 8 (Fri) and lasting until February 7 (Sun) for Tokyo and three neighbouring prefectures of Saitama, Kanagawa and Chiba. Later also prefectures of Osaka, Hyogo, Kyoto, Fukuoka, Gifu, Aichi and Tochigi were added with the same ending date.
    • In Japan there is no completely lockdown in place and people can go out and most retail stores remain open. However, the officials are requesting citizens to avoid unnecessary outing and promote companies to adopt telework mode when possible.
    • Government has also requested the restaurants to close by 8pm and for complying restaurants a supplementary grant is prepared.
    • Ministry of Foreign Affairs has a special page regarding traveling and coronavirus
    • Japan is not currently issuing new visas and if traveling cannot be avoided, the embassy of the inbound country should be contacted in advance as the regulations might change rapidly.
